I came to education through a circuitous route. Initially believing my career path was going to take me to the world of vocal performance, I majored in music at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Eventually, a wall of reality sparked me into realizing a new direction needed to be taken. After five years and two summers of classes, I graduated with a BS in Elementary Education in 1987.
During my first 11 years teaching 1st - 5th grade as a general education instructor, I became familiar with the world of gifted education. While working as a 3rd, 1st and then a 5th grade gifted cluster teacher, I completed my gifted education graduate hours through Hardin-Simmons University under the tutelage of Dr. Bertie Kingore. Completing the needed requirements to acquire my gifted education endorsement lead me to becoming a gifted education facilitator in three different districts. I began teaching at Grace Best Elementary in 2008 and moved to Bear Creek with the most amazing educational staff I have ever encountered. I adore the student body and their supportive parents. Working with the gifted education population at Bear Creek is one of the most rewarding career paths I have experienced. Having worked in education for 25 years and in gifted education for 14 years, it is my distinct pleasure to serve and support my students and their parents. | |
